Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that Israel is in a "heart of a crisis" following the delay of a controversial overhaul of the judiciary. The delay came after widespread protests involving hundreds of thousands of people and calls for a solution that would prevent further division in the nation. Netanyahu said he would "turn over every stone" to find a solution, but also warned that Israel is "at a dangerous crossroads".

The proposal would give ministers more control over judicial appointments and limit the Supreme Court's ability to veto legislation or rule against the government.

The potential overhaul will not be discussed in parliament until next month after a delay agreed upon by coalition partners.

Israel's president and former deputy prime minister both emphasized the need for a broad consensus.

The UK's Foreign Secretary James Cleverly welcomed the decision to pause the legislation, stating that it was "vital that the shared democratic values that underpin that (UK-Israel) relationship are upheld".
