Kylian Mbappe has recently disclosed that he held a conversation with Antoine Griezmann, who was left disappointed when Mbappe was announced as the new captain of France's national football team.

Despite the age and experience difference between the two, France coach Didier Deschamps chose Mbappe, who has played for the team 66 times, over the 32-year-old Griezmann, who has played for Les Bleus 117 times. Before their first game together in a Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands, Mbappe stated that he had spoken to Griezmann to ease the disappointment he felt. Mbappe acknowledged that he was not superior to Griezmann and that the latter's experience is valuable to the team.

He also said that they will work together to make the French team victorious, and if Griezmann has anything to say, Mbappe will listen. Mbappe was fined €10,000 for not speaking to the media in Qatar until after winning his third Man of the Match award. Despite being named captain, he plans to stay true to his personality and be a different captain than Hugo Lloris. He sees his role as a unifier and link between the old and new generations of the team. Deschamps has no advice for Mbappe and trusts that he knows what he needs to do.

Lastly, Marcus and Khephren Thuram, the sons of Lilian Thuram, the player with the most caps for France, have been named in the senior squad for the first time together. Image source: Getty images
